Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers love the remote control features of their key fob. They can lock and unlock their vehicle or start the motor and even find it using the smartphone app.
Place the key fob's face up on a clean surface. Locate the button that releases it, then wedge a coin between the fob and the cover and then pull it up with care.
Unlocking the Doors
Volvo's remote key fobs are able to unlock the tailgate, doors, and fuel filler flap of your vehicle with a press of a button. Remote key fobs can also turn on the ignition and trigger the alarm. They can even operate the sunroof when it's equipped. With these features, you'll never have to look for your keys again or get locked out of your car again.
You may not know about certain key fob features that are hidden. You can use the lock/unlock feature manual if your key fob battery is not working.
Place your key fob on the table with the Volvo logo facing upwards, and press the manual lock/unlock. Find the black button that is located near the edges of the key fob body and gently press it to open a cover that conceals a manual key blade. You'll require a flathead screwdriver and a coin to flip this cover counterclockwise so that the arrow is aligned with "open."

Starting the Engine
Modern Volvo key fobs provide an ease of use and convenience that is not available with manual keys. A key fob, just like any other battery-operated device, can lose its charge over time. If you notice that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock button, it might be time to replace the battery.
You can enable this feature using the key fob if the vehicle has a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The vehicle will then cool or heat to the exact temperature it was at while parked. It can run for up to 15 minutes.
Utilizing a fingernail to carefully remove the cover from the back of the key fob. Under the cover on a diagonal, close to the body's edge, you should find a button. Slide it to the right. The cover will be released, and then slide away to reveal the manual blade! If you're still having trouble finding the button, search around the newly exposed manual key access to find if there is a hidden slot or lever.
Closing the Windows
Volvo key fobs have an unnoticed feature that allows you to immediately roll down all windows. This is useful when trying to squeeze into a tight parking spot, or even just when you're in need of fresh air inside the cabin while driving.
To do this simply press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof, if you have one. After you've finished using the vehicle, you can close all windows by pressing the lock key again for four seconds.
You can also use the key fob to turn on your car's panic alarm. It will create an alarm that is loud enough to draw attention to the car and deter thieves. It also helps you return to your home in a safe manner in the event that you've been away all night. This feature can be very useful if you are living in a hazardous area or you want to safeguard your family members while they are away.
Opening the Tailgate

Turning off the Alarm

Find a smooth surface and lay out your key fob, battery, and extra keys. Find the small black button located at the lower left corner of the key fob. slide it to the right. The cover will fall off and reveal the key blade that is mechanical underneath.
You can open all the doors as well as the rear gate by pressing the unlock button on the fob's key twice. The lock button also shuts the windows and the sunroof (if equipped) by pressing it for 2 seconds. Reconnect the battery, and the alarm should cease. If it doesn't, the owner's manual should contain a procedure to reset the system.
